CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Dartmouth women's basketball team was neck-and-neck with soon-to-be Ivy Madness contender Harvard through most of the first half of Tuesday's season finale, but let it slip away down the stretch in a 75-48 loss inside Lavietes Pavilion.
Â
The Big Green finish the 2023-24 campaign with a 7-19 record – two more wins than the last two seasons combined – and a 1-13 mark in the Ivy League. The Crimson finished their regular season at 16-11 overall and 9-5 in the Ancient Eight.
Â
Dartmouth led 10-4 midway through the first quarter and trailed by only four late in the opening half before Harmoni Turner hit a last-second jumper to send Harvard into the break with plenty of momentum, allowing the Crimson to outscore the Big Green 23-10 in the third.
Â
Clare Meyer, who went for a 24-point double-double in the last meeting between the two teams, led Dartmouth with 11 points and
Victoria Page joined her in double figures with 10. Two Big Green players grabbed six rebounds, including senior
Carrington Washburn, who knocked down two 3-pointers in her final game. Harvard was led by Harmoni Turner's game-high 24 points and 13 rebounds, along with other double-digit scoring efforts from Katie Krupa and Abigail Wright.
Â
Victoria Page sank a 3-pointer on the Big Green's first possession, kickstarting a strong offensive start that would carry them to an early six-point lead. Five early points from
Mia Curtis, including a deep three, were key in the encouraging start. Harvard took its first lead (12-10) on Lola Mullaney's triple at the 2:14 mark of the first.
Â
The Big Green regained some momentum with one of Washburn's 3-pointers at the 7:58 mark of the second quarter, tying the game at 17-17, but Harvard triples on back-to-back possessions just minutes later allowed the Crimson to tilt things back in their favor. Harvard opened the third quarter with an 11-2 run, which the Big Green wouldn't recover from, eventually trailing by 20 in the final minutes of the third.
Â
With the 2023-24 season in the books, the Big Green set their sights on the 2024-25 campaign, which will welcome back several key contributors, including the top two scorers in
Clare Meyer and
Victoria Page, along with leading rebounder and shot-blocker
Doreen Ariik.
