HANOVER, N.H. — Firmly in the mix for the Ivy League Tournament with only two series now remaining, the Dartmouth softball team completed a series sweep of Cornell with its 4-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Dartmouth Softball Park.
Â
Jensin Hall, the nation's leader in strikeouts per seven innings, pitched for the first time in two weeks on Saturday, and today recorded 11 strikeouts through six shutout innings. The first-year has now recorded double-digit strikeouts in six different games this season.
Â
Alaana Panu, who finished the series batting better than .600 across the three games, was 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored.
Justice Malone,
Ashley Frantz and
Olivia Schramm each came up with RBIs as Dartmouth manufactured plenty of run support for Hall.
Â
Hall walked the bases loaded in the first, but quickly settled in with an inning-ending strikeout – her first of nine straight Big Red batters retired. Cornell notched its first hit in the fourth inning.
Â
The Big Green weren't in the hit column until the third, when Panu beat out a grounder to third. She would advance on a wild pitch before scoring the game's first run as
Kelly Beaupre reached on an error by the shortstop. A two-run fourth stretched Dartmouth's lead as
Leila Hennessy, who walked off the opening game of the series with a clutch RBI double, led the inning with a two-bagger and scored on Malone's double. Malone would come around after Frantz's two-out single.
Â
In the fifth, the Big Green once again had a leadoff double – this time by Panu – and she would score on a well-placed bunt by
Olivia Schramm.
Â
Rachel McCarroll, the pitcher of record in both Saturday victories, took over for Hall and secured the shutout, stranding one Big Red baserunner as she fanned Marisa Zorrilla for the game's final out.
Â
Following Sunday's win, the Big Green once again have a winning record in the Ivy League at 8-7. They'll travel to Penn, who they swept in each of the past two seasons, next weekend for the penultimate series before the tournament.
