HANOVER, N.H. —
Jensin Hall of the Dartmouth softball team became the first player in program history to be named to the Tucci/NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) Division I Freshman of the Year Top 25 list, which was announced on Thursday afternoon.
Â
Hall, already enjoying a season marked by historic numbers, is currently the nation's leader in strikeouts per seven innings (11.2) and has been named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week four times.
Â
On May 9, the list that includes two other Ivy League players will be trimmed to the top 10 and three finalists will be released on May 23. The 2024 TUCCI/NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year will be announced on May 28 prior to the start of the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
Â
On March 30 against Yale, Hall became just the third freshman in program history to throw a no-hitter. She followed that up a week later with 17 strikeouts against Brown, which were the most ever by a Big Green pitcher against a Division I opponent, and the most by any Ivy League Pitcher against Division I competition since 2006.
Â
During that dominant effort against the Bears, she reached the century mark in strikeouts and was the fastest player in program history to do so in a single season. Hall has recorded double-digit punchouts in six different games this season.
Â
In addition to Ivy League success, Hall's abilities were also on display during Dartmouth's challenging nonconference slate as she fanned seven during four shutout innings against nationally ranked Virginia Tech. She also earned the win against No. 21/23 Boston University to help guide the Big Green to their first ranked win since 2015.
Â
Hall is joined in the Top 25 by fellow Ivy Leaguers Sophie Sun (Harvard) and Sonia Zhang (Princeton). The Ivy League was tied with the ACC for the second-most Top 25 honorees, trailing only the Big 12, which tallied six.
