HANOVER, N.H. — The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its all-region teams on Thursday afternoon, and
Jensin Hall and
Mary Beth Cahalan of the Dartmouth softball team were both named to the All-Northeast Region Second Team.
Â
Hall's and Cahalan's all-region honors are the Big Green's first since Billie McFadyen landed on the third team in 2022, and are the highest NFCA postseason honors bestowed upon a Dartmouth player since Micah Schroder was a first teamer in 2019.
Â
First-year Hall is no stranger to NFCA recognition, having been the first player in program history named to the organization's Division I National Freshman of the Year Top 25. Just over a week ago, she became the first rookie to earn Ivy League Pitcher of the Year since 2003. Hall put up plenty of eye-popping numbers during the 2024 season, including an Ivy League-best 176 total strikeouts in 117.2 innings pitched. She led the nation in strikeouts per seven innings for much of the season and finished ranking fourth (10.5) on that leaderboard. In addition to a no-hitter against eventual Ivy League Tournament participant Yale, the Frisco, Texas native struck out 17 against Brown, marking a single-game program record against a Division I opponent and the most strikeouts by any Ancient Eight pitcher against Division I competition since 2006.
Â
Hall's strikeout total was the highest by any Dartmouth pitcher since 2013, as well the most by any first-year hurler in program history.
Â
Cahalan, a First Team All-Ivy recipient, led the Big Green with a .369 batting average while putting up career numbers as a senior. That mark places her among the top 10 single-season performances in program history. The Midland, Georgia native hit five home runs in 2024, including two during a two-game sweep of Columbia that allowed Dartmouth clinch its first Ivy League Tournament appearance. Behind the plate, Cahalan gunned down 13 baserunners to rank second among all Ancient Eight catchers.
Â
Hall and Cahalan were instrumental in the Big Green upping their conference win total by five games compared to the 2023 season, and helped the team find success in the non-conference as well, having defeated No. 21/23 Boston University for the first ranked win since 2015.
