HANOVER, N.H. – After a disappointing match earlier in the week, the men's soccer program returned to the field, looking to play with pride against the reigning America East Champion Bryant Bulldogs.
The Big Green got a late goal from
Ben Jenkins to seal the victory, securing a 2-1 win ahead of their final nonconference game before Ivy League play and dealing the Bulldogs their first road loss since 2022.
With the win, Dartmouth moves to 2-3-1 on the season.
Dartmouth came out of the gate with a much better start against the Bulldogs, throwing eight shots toward Bryant's keeper in the first half. The Big Green's leading scorers
Vasilis Moiras and
Trenton Blake had chances, but
Phineas Callahan ultimately put the Big Green on the board.
The Bulldogs, trying to break out of their defensive zone, sent a back pass into space. Callahan turned on the jets, picked up the loose ball, and shot it top left over the extended keeper to put Dartmouth up 1-0 in the 37
th minute.
Despite being down 1-0, the Bulldogs continued to pressure through the remainder of the first half and into the second. The Big Green seemed to keep Bryant contained, but the ball found its way to Marc Pitarch Bayot in the box who one touched the ball into the net to tie the game.
With just over nine minutes to go,
Oskar Magnusson found himself wide open with the ball and raced down the wing. Magnusson sent the ball into the middle and onto the foot of
Ben Jenkins who got just enough on it, earning his first goal of the season.
"I just saw Oskar going down the wing, he played a beautiful ball in, and the rest was easy just tapping it in," Jenkins said about his game winner.
Not only did he credit his teammate, but he credited his Bobby Clark Head Coach, Bo Oshonoyi.
"I just want to give all credit to Coach Bo for having faith in me through all my time here, believing in this team and being a phenomenal role model for all of us gentleman on and off the pitch."
Oshoniyi gave the praise right back to not only Jenkins, but his team as a whole.
"We wanted to come out and play for the jersey, and the guys did that from the opening whistle," Oshoniyi said. "To have [Bryant] tie the game up and still come back and get the game winner from
Ben Jenkins was awesome… Ben's been through a lot his four years here, so just really happy he got a chance to seize the moment, and he did."
While the Big Green finish tonight on a high note, it is back to business tomorrow, prepping for their last game ahead of conference play, a Tuesday road trip to Merrimack. Oshoniyi hopes his team can tighten up a few areas, ahead of battling Brown next weekend.
"I think just making sure we take care of our bodies. We had this kind of rhythm through the UConn and UMASS games, and I don't think we ever got our bodies back," Oshoniyi said. "Cleaning up things defensively so we are a bit more sharp there. And being more clinical in the attacking third. I think we had a lot of great chances in zone 14 we didn't take care of so want to make sure we are punishing teams when we have those opportunities and hopefully, we can do that against Merrimack and build momentum into Brown."
If the Big Green can put all those things together, Jenkins has no doubt they will continue to find success.
"The goal is to just continue to prove to ourselves that we are good enough to beat any team in the nation," Jenkins said. "When we come together and we believe and the bench is with us, there's nothing we can't do. I believe good things are coming to us in the Ivy League."
Dartmouth's matchup with the Merrimack Warriors is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
