Big Green Fall To Cornell In Physical Matchup

HANOVER, N.H.—Dartmouth field hockey played host to Cornell on Friday afternoon at Chase Field. Despite earning nine penalty corners, the Big Green fell 3-1 to the Big Red.

Cornell opened the scoring just under six minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead. The 1-0 lead held for the remainder of the opening quarter. Both teams tallied two total shots with each team having one shot on goal.

About six and a half minutes into the second quarter, the Big Green found the back of the cage to tie game at one. Gabriela Braceras took the corner and fired the ball to the top of the circle. Florentina Terra teed the ball up for Ella Bowman who fired home her second goal of the year from just inside the circle. Braceras notched her team leading fourth assist while Terra picked up her first assist of the year.

The Big Red answered and took the lead back just over four minutes later to take a 2-1 lead.

At halftime, Dartmouth and Cornell each had five total shots while Kylie McKinley had two saves.

The two teams battled in the third quarter with the Ivy League foes combining for four cards. Cornell added to its lead with less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter to take a 3-1 lead.

Dartmouth looked to answer in the fourth quarter and despite taking the only shot, the Big Green could not complete a comeback.

McKinley finished the game with three saves. Bowman finished with a game high three shots with one finding the goal.

The Big Green are back on the field on Sunday as Bryant travels to Hanover for a non-conference match.
