HANOVER, N.H.—Dartmouth's Brandon Mitchell-Day of men's basketball and Katy Jia of women's swimming and diving have been named The Richard's Group Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes, one male, one female – as Athletes of the Week.
Brandon Mitchell-Day, Junior, St. Louis, Mo., Men's Basketball
Mitchell-Day scored 23 points and grabbed a career high 20 rebounds for a massive double double and his second of the season. He shot 8-15 from the field, 1-1 from three and 6-6 from the free throw line in the team's win over Brown on the road on Saturday. Mitchell-Day is only the fifth player in the NCAA to record a 20-20 double double this season. He is also the only player in the nation this season with a 20-20 double double on the road. In addition, Mitchell-Day's 23 points are the highest scored in a 20-20 double double by any player against a D1 opponent this season. The 20 rebounds are the most of any Ivy player since 2022. Mitchell-Day is the first Ivy League player to post a 20-20 double-double since January of 2012 (Greg Mangano of Yale against St. Joseph's of Long Island). He's also the first Dartmouth and Ivy League player to post a 20-20 double-double against a Division I opponent since the turn of the century.
Kathy Jia, Sophomore, Ambler, Pa., Women's Swimming and Diving
Jia swam to a time of 2:15.09 in the 200 breast. The time won the event, set a new pool record, it was her lifetime best time, and she now sits 2nd on the All-Time Top-10 list for the 200 breast in program history. Her time of 2:15.09 would have landed her on the podium in the Ivy League Championships last season. In the 200 medley relay, Jia went a lifetime best in her breaststroke leg. The relay, which also included Jamie Legh, Lane Murray and Samantha Li set a pool record with a time of 1:41.72 and landed them first place. The pool record that was shattered was a record set by the same relay team last weekend in the Tate Ramsden Invitational.
