SACRAMENTO, CALIF. -- Jacob Turner, William McClelland, David Kushnirsky, and Nil Helvacioglu of the Dartmouth swim team made waves in Sacramento this past week at the TYR Pro Series, a national level competition held in the 50 meter Olympic distance that features professional athletes, Olympians, NCAA finalists, and the elite athletes from all over the world.
Head Coach Milana Socha shared her thoughts on the meet: This meet was a great opportunity for our athletes to open the long course meters (LCM) season and see where their training is following the end of the spring term training block. Walking away from the meet with some lifetime best times, strong finals appearances, and lessons learned is what we were looking for. We also had an opportunity to connect with some program alumni on the West Coast which was quite exciting.
Turner posted the team's highest overall finish, racing his way to 4th place overall with a 2:03.15 in the 200 IM A-final on the first day of competition. Later that same day, he also went a lifetime best in the C-final of the 200 freestyle, going 1:54.41 for 22nd. On the second day of the meet he earned a spot in the B-final of 100 butterfly going a lifetime best 54.78 and finished in 12th. In prelims he qualified for the A-final of the 400IM but was disqualified on a backstroke turn. His last finals swim of the competition came in the 200 butterfly where he finished 13th in the semi-final with a lifetime best of 2:03.85. He also competed in the 100 breast.

Captain William McClelland '27 opened the meet with a lifetime best swim in the 200 freestyle. On day two he got a spot in the B-final of the 100 butterfly, going 55.10 for 15th place overall. On the final day of the competition, William competed in the C-final of the 50 butterfly going a 25.21 to finish in 19th place. He also competed in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
Â
First year David Kushnirsky '29 had his top performance of the week in the 50 breaststroke where he went a new lifetime best time of 28.83. Coming out of prelims he was tied for 16th place; this required a swim-off to determine which of the tied athletes would advance to B-final and who would swim in the C-final. David won the swim off, earning a spot in the B-final at night and ended up finishing in 14th place. He also competed in the 200 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke.
Â
The women's team was represented by Nil Helvacioglu '29 who made her 2026 racing debut at this competition in the 200 freestyle. Nil was unable to compete in the second half of the college season so we were all very excited to see her competing again, the first step towards getting back to peak ability, said Head Coach Milana Socha.Â
