CANTON, N.Y.—No. 19/20 Dartmouth men's hockey opened its trip to the North Country of New York with a 6-1 win over St. Lawrence.
The Big Green opened the scoring at the 15:29 mark of the first period. While on the power play, Nikita Nikora had the puck in the right faceoff circle and fed a pass to CJ Foley at the point. Foley one-timed the puck towards to the net and Hank Cleaves redirected the puck into the net for his second goal of the year. Foley notched his fourth assist of the year while it was Nikora's fifth.
After the opening period, the Big Green were outshooting the Saints 9-4 while winning the faceoff battle 11-7.
5:57 into the second period, Ryan Schelling and Alex Krause pressured the St. Lawrence defense core and forced a turnover. Nathan Morin picked up the loose puck and ripped it over the goalie's right shoulder for his first NCAA goal.
Less than five minutes later while the Big Green were shorthanded, Brock Cummings forced a turnover and won a race to a loose puck. He deked the goalie and went to his backhand on the breakaway and finished for his first collegiate goal.
13 seconds later, the Big Green struck again while shorthanded. Krause picked up a loose puck after St. Lawrence over skated the puck in their own zone. Krause took the puck and the beat the goalie on the deke for his first goal of the season.
The Big Green took a 4-0 lead into the third period and were outshooting the Saints 20-9 after 40 minutes. Dartmouth also went 11-8 in the faceoff circle in the second period.
8:52 into the third period, Morin made it 5-0 following a solid forecheck. Krause and Cam MacDonald forced a turnover below the goal line. MacDonald had the puck behind the net and threw a backhand no look pass to Morin in the low slot who one-timed it home. It was MacDonald's third assist of the season while it was Krause's second.
Less than four minutes later, Morin completed the hat-trick with Dartmouth's third shorthanded goal of the game. He fended off a St. Lawrence defender and beat him to the puck. He used one hand to shovel the puck past the goalie who attempted a poke check.
With 2:28 left in regulation St. Lawrence broke up the shutout.
Roan Clarke improved to 3-0 on the season as he made 14 saves in net for the Big Green.
Dartmouth went 29-22 in the faceoff circle while Cleaves won a team best 12 faceoffs. Jason Stefanek went 8-2 in the circle for a team best 80% winning percentage.
It is the first time since Jan. 25, 2025 in a 6-1 win over Cornell that Dartmouth has scored two or more shorthanded goals in a game.
Morin's hat-trick is the second hat-trick of the season, it is the first time since the 2017-18 season that Dartmouth has had multiple hat-tricks in a season.
The Big Green look to complete the North Country sweep on Saturday, Nov. 15 as they take on Clarkson at 4 PM.
