POTSDAM, N.Y.—The No. 19 ranked Dartmouth men's hockey team improved to 6-0-0 and 4-0-0 in ECAC play on Saturday night with a 3-1 win over Clarkson on the road.
The first period was scoreless as the Big Green outshot the Golden Knights 7-4. Dartmouth allowed one Clarkson power play but did not allow Clarkson to register a shot on the man advantage.
7:20 into the second period, the Big Green broke the scoreless tie. Andrew Clarke had the puck behind the Clarkson net, he scanned the zone for an open man. He threw a pass towards the slot to Jack Silverberg, the pass banked off the skates of a Clarkson player and Silverberg picked up the loose puck. Silverberg took a wicked wrister and scored his first collegiate goal to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead. Clarke picked up his third assist of the season.
Just over five minutes later, the Golden Knights tied the game at one.
After 40 minutes of play the score was tied at one with shots being 14-12 in favor of Dartmouth.
At the 8:05 mark of the third period, the Big Green broke the tie. Tucker McRae funneled the puck below the goal line to Nathan Morin who passed it to Nikita Nikora. Nikora looked for a pass out front and found Morin who found open space in the low slot. Morin took a quick pass from Nikora and one-timed home his fourth goal of the season. Nikora notched his fifth assist of the season while it was McRae's first point of the year.
Just over three minutes later, the Big Green got an insurance goal to make it 3-1. Hayden Stavroff took the body of the Clarkson defensemen below the Clarkson goal line and forced a turnover as Cam MacDonald picked up the loose puck. MacDonald picked up the puck and fired a pass back to Stavroff in the low slot. Stavroff made no mistake as he scored his team leading seventh goal of the season. It was MacDonald's fourth assist of the season as he played in his 100th career game on Saturday.
The Big Green held off the third period pressure from Clarkson as Emmett Croteau turned away all 16 Clarkson shots in the frame.
Croteau finished the game with 27 saves while improving to 3-0-0 this season with a 1.00 goals against average and a .960 save percentage.
It is the first time since the 2017-18 season that Dartmouth swept the North Country road trip. On Friday night, the Big Green defeated St. Lawrence 6-1.
It is the first time since the 1957-58 season that Dartmouth has started a season 6-0-0.
The Big Green are off next weekend before playing a pair of non-conference games on Thanksgiving Weekend. Dartmouth hosts rival Vermont on Friday, Nov. 28 at 6 PM before taking on Merrimack at 4 PM on Saturday, Nov. 29.
