HANOVER, N.H.—No. 13/10 Dartmouth men's hockey extended its winning streak to seven games with a 7-2 win over Vermont on Friday night. The Big Green are off to a 7-0-0 start for the first time since the 1947-48 season.
The Big Green opened the scoring 5:49 into the game as the trio of Cam MacDonald, Hank Cleaves, and Hayden Stavroff went to work on the forecheck. H. Cleaves pulled puck of the corner and the teams battled for it until MacDonald pulled it towards the net. The puck bounced around and H. Cleaves shoveled it towards the net, it got through the goalie to give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead. It was H. Cleaves' third goal of the year while MacDonald notched his fifth assist, Stavroff picked up his third assist.
Vermont tied the game at the 12:28 mark of the period, it was the first time this season that Dartmouth has allowed a first period goal.
Dartmouth responded just over a minute later at the 13:46 mark of the frame as Jason Stefanek notched his first career goal. Nikita Nikora forced a turnover along the half wall and forced a mini two on one with Stefanek. Nikora fed a perfect saucer pass to Stefanek who one-timed home his first collegiate goal. Nikora notched his team leading seventh assist. It was Stefanek's fourth point of his first season in Hanover.
The Catamounts evened the scored at the 15:27 mark of the frame to it make it 2-2.
At the 17:35 mark of the opening frame the Big Green took the lead and never looked back. The trio of Nathan Morin, Ryan Schelling, and Oskari Vuorio broke into the Vermont zone. Vuorio fired the puck to the right circle to Schelling who fired the puck to the net. Morin drove to the net and banged home a rebound for his fifth goal of the year. He has scored five goals in the last three games. Schelling and Vuorio each picked up their first assists of the season.
With 39.5 seconds left in the first period, the Big Green doubled their lead. Andrew Clarke picked up a loose puck below the goal line and threw a backhand pass to Colin Grable at the point. Grable picked up the pass and waited for Brock Cummings to set a screen in front of the net. Grable fired a low shot that beat the goalie five-hole for his second goal of the year. A. Clarke, notched his fourth assist of the season while Alex Krause picked up a secondary assist for his third assist.
The Big Green outshot Vermont 12-10 in the first period and went to the locker room up 4-2. It is the third time this season that Dartmouth has scored four goals in a period.
At the 5:03 mark of the third period, the Big Green made it a three goal lead. Morin picked up a pass from MacDonald and curled to the outside wall. He found Eric Charpentier joining the play and led him with a backhand saucer pass. Charpentier skated into it and blasted home his third goal of the season. Morin picked up his second assist of the year while it was MacDonald's sixth.
After a six goal first period, the teams combined for just one goal while the Big Green outshot UVM 10-6.
11:19 into the third, the Big Green scored their sixth goal of the night. As another first-year scored his first career goal. While on the power play, Stefanek swatted a loose puck off a faceoff back to Cooper Cleaves at the point. C. Cleaves slid the puck across to Schelling who fired it back to C. Cleaves at the top of the point. C. Cleave hesitated and froze the Vermont defenders before ripping a wrister into the top corner of the net. Schelling picked up his second assist of the game and season while it was Stefanek's fourth assist of the season and his second point of the game.
With 95 seconds left in the third period, number 95 for the Big Green scored his second goal of the year. Roan Clarke settled the puck behind the net for CJ Foley who picked up the puck and gained speed on the power play breakout. He dished to puck to Krause at the red line and Krause did the rest. He used a mixture of speed and size and drove around the defensemen to the net and found the back of the net for his second goal of the year. Foley picked up his fifth assist while R. Clarke notched his first collegiate point.
R. Clarke made 22 saves in net for the Big Green as he improved to 4-0-0 this season with a .921 save percentage and a 1.51 goals against average.
Morin, MacDonald, Schelling, Krause, and Stefanek each had two points in the win while Dartmouth had seven different scorers and 15 different point getters.
With both Cleaves brothers scoring, it is the first time since Jan. 17, 2025, that two brothers have scored in the same game for Dartmouth.
Faceoffs were nearly even as Dartmouth had 33 wins. H. Cleaves had a team best 14 wins while A. Clarke had seven wins.
The Big Green were 2-5 on the power play with seven shots while UVM was held to four shots on two unsuccessful power plays.
Nearly 3,800 fans came to Thompson Arena on Friday night as Dartmouth announced its first sellout of the 2025-26 season.
