HANOVER, N.H. — A day after being named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week,
Mason Morel of Dartmouth men's lacrosse has been named to the USILA National Team of the Week, as announced on Tuesday. Morel tied a career high with 21 saves against No. 4 Princeton, a mark originally set last season against the Tigers.
Â
The honor is Morel's second national recognition in three weeks and the Big Green's third team of the week honor this season (along with
Thomas Goguen on Mar. 13).
Â
Against the fourth-ranked Tigers, Morel finished with 19 of his 21 saves over the first three quarters to keep the 18th-ranked Big Green in the game.
Â
Dartmouth would pull within one on two occasions in the fourth quarter. The Big Green jumped out to a 4-1 lead early in the second, due in large part to Morel stopping 6-of-7 shots sent his way in the first quarter. In the end, he made 21 saves, allowing just 11 goals (three of which were scored on an empty net).
Â
Morel has tallied at least 14 saves with a game save percentage of 63.6 percent or higher in each of his last four games. For the season, he owns a 61.2 save percentage and 9.11 goals against average.
Â
The 18th-ranked Big Green remain home on Saturday to host No. 11 Harvard at 1 p.m.
