NEW YORK CITY – The Dartmouth softball team was downed by Columbia in both games of its doubleheader on Saturday afternoon from Ney York City.

The Big Green combined for 18 hits in both games. In the second game of the doubleheader,
Alaana Panu was 4-5 with two home runs and a game high five RBIs. The five were all but one of the team's total.

GAME 1: Columbia 5, Dartmouth 4
Â
Columbia struck first, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the second and three runs in the bottom of the third, 4-0 Lions.
Isabel Kirby came to the circle for
Jensin Hall.
Â
The Big Green got one run back in the top of the fourth inning. Panu was able to reach on an error and she stole second. A
Justice Malone single drove her home, 4-1 Lions.

Leila Hennessy recorded a single in the top of the fifth but was left stranded. The Lions added another run in the bottom of the fifth off two hits, 5-1 Columbia.

Dartmouth forced a one-two-three inning out of the Lions in the bottom of the sixth and brought the momentum to the top of the seventh.
Olivia Schramm and
Cwen Wilson singled to have runners on first and second.
Georgia Bilski pinch hit and rocked a three-run homer to right field to bring the game within one, 5-4 Lions.

The Lions were able to hold the Big Green and took the 5-4 victory.

GAME 2: Columbia 9, Dartmouth 8

Dartmouth got things going early with a leadoff home run from Panu, 1-0 Big Green. The Lions got the run right back and then some in the bottom of the inning. The Lions recorded four runs on four hits to take a 4-1 lead. Kirby once again came to the circle for
Rachel McCarroll.

Panu reached first base after getting hit by a pitch in the top of the third. She stole second followed by stealing third to get into scoring position. She scored on a Malone single to cut the Columbia lead in half, 4-2 Lions.

In the bottom of the third, Columbia scored two runs off three hits to take a 6-2 lead. McCarroll reentered the game for Kirby.

The Big Green loaded the bases in the top of the fourth and a hard-hit Wilson grounder forced an error and allowed two runs to come home. With two runners still on base, Panu knocked her second home run of the game and gave Dartmouth the lead, 7-6. The inning saw four hits from the Big Green. They kept the momentum and took care of the Lions in one-two-three fashion in the bottom of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Hall came in to pitch and once again forced a one-two-three inning from the Lions.

The bottom of the seventh brought another run for the Lions, tying the game at 7-7 and sending it to extra innings.

Dartmouth put two runners on base in the top of the eighth thanks to singles from Panu and
Faby Serna, but they were left stranded. Columbia doubled in the bottom of the inning to get a runner on, but Dartmouth got out of the inning.

The ninth inning went scoreless and three singles from the Big Green in the top of the tenth put them in front, 8-7. A Panu single drove in the go ahead run.

In the bottom of the inning, the Lions notched two runs and took the victory in walk off fashion, 9-8.

The Big Green close out the series with Columbia on Sunday, May 4 with a new first pitch time of 11:00 a.m.
