
Hagenbuch, Thurston, and Zimmer Named The Richards Group Athletes of the Week

HANOVER, N.H.—John Steel Hagenbuch, Ava Thurston, and Oscar Zimmer all of Dartmouth skiing have been named The Richards Group Athletes of the Week following outstanding performances on the mountain.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight outstanding student-athletes as Athletes of the Week.
John Steel Hagenbuch, Sr., Ketchum, Idaho, Nordic Skiing
John Steel Hagenbuch claimed his third straight individual national championship at this year's national championship in Utah, winning the 7.5K classic race by 5.7 seconds. Hagenbuch posted the fastest lap time on two of the three laps, earning the win with a combined time of 18:25.3. He also skied to a second-place finish in the 20K freestyle race, just four tenths of a second out of first place. Hagenbuch, who earned two First Team All-American honors at this year's championship, finishes his career with three individual championships and as a seven time First-Team All-American.
Ava Thurston, Sr., Waterbury, Vt., Nordic Skiing
Ava Thurston finished her Dartmouth career at the National Championship this past weekend, taking home All-American honors in each race. In Thursday's 7.5K Classic, Thurston skied to an eighth-place finish, earning Second-Team All-American recognition with a time of 26:35.5. She followed with a fourth-place finish in the 20K Freestyle, finishing just two tenths of a second off the podium with a time of 52:22.9, being named First-Team All-American. The senior is now a five-time All-American, having two first-team honors and three second team honors.
Oscar Zimmer, Sr., Oslo, Norway, Alpine Skiing
Oscar Zimmer finished his Dartmouth career on a high note Saturday, winning the individual national championship in the men's slalom. He posted the fastest first run time, 47.20 seconds, before finishing his second run in 46.57, posting a combined time of 1:33.77, winning the race by just under half a second. Zimmer also raced the giant slalom on Wednesday, finishing in 1:56.24 to claim fifth place, just over one tenth of a second off the podium. He took home two First-Team All-American honors at this year's national championship, finishing his career as a seven-time First-Team All-American.
