LA JOLLA, Calif. – Dartmouth women's tennis' spring break trip continued this weekend, as the Big Green played two matches, facing off against Long Beach State and UC San Diego.
The Big Green split the weekend, falling to LBSU 4-2 before coming back to defeat UCSD 4-3.
Match 1: Long Beach State 4, Dartmouth 2
The Big Green started Friday's match against the Dirtbags on a high, winning both second and third doubles to clinch the doubles point.
At second doubles,
Sam Grosjean and
Alexandra Orlins earned the 7-5 win over their opponents.
Josephine Lombardi and
Elise Wong claimed the 6-3 win at third doubles, sealing the overall doubles point.
Peyton Capuano and
Michela Moore's first doubles match went unfinished after the Big Green earned the point. Capuano and Moore were trailing 6-5 when the match was called.
After an unfinished doubles match, Capuano at first singles and Moore at second singles were looking to take home the wins. Capuano won her first set, 7-5, but dropped the next two, 6-4, 6-1. Moore forced her first set into a tiebreak, falling 7-4, 7-6 in the first set, before ultimately dropping the second set, 6-2.
Orlins was slotted at third singles. She dropped her first set, 6-2, but bounced back to earn the 6-3 middle set victory. Despite the match being tied at one, Orlins fell in the third set as the Dirtbags' Jagare took the win, 6-3.
At fourth singles,
Lauren Han was shutout in her first set, falling 6-0, before coming back to win the second set, 6-4. She fell in the final set. 6-2.
Grosjean earned her second win of the day, taking home the Big Green's lone singles point. She beat her opponent at fifth singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Caroline Lemcke also played for the Big Green at sixth singles. She dropped her first set 6-1, but won the middle set in a thrilling tiebreaker, earning the 7-6, 8-6 victory. Lemcke was leading the third set 3-2 when the match was called after LBSU clinched the overall match victory.
Match 2: Dartmouth 4, UC San Diego 3
On Sunday, the Big Green faced off against the Tritons as Dartmouth earned the 4-3 victory thanks to four singles wins.
The Tritons earned the doubles point, but not without a fight from the Big Green.
Peyton Capuano and
Michela Moore teamed up for their team leading 11
th doubles win of the season, defeating UCSD's Allegre and Visaya, 6-3.
Sam Grosjean and
Alexandra Orlins, paired at second doubles, fell to their opponents, 6-4.
The doubles point came down to the final pair,
Josephine Lombardi and
Elise Wong. The first-year and sophomore battled into a tiebreaker, but fell 7-6, 7-5, as the Tritons took the doubles point.
Singles began with a dominating win at first singles by Moore, as she cruised to the 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Lombardi's fourth singles match was the next to conclude, as she earned the 6-4, 6-4 victory.
In her first match of the trip,
Audrey Feng took home the win at sixth singles. She won the first set 6-1 before following with a 6-4 victory.
Grosjean won her three-set third singles match. She won the first set, 6-4, before falling in the middle set, 6-3. Grosjean came back in the final set, defeating UCSD's Allaye-Chan, 6-2.
Lauren Han was inserted at second singles against the Tritons, falling in three sets. UCSD's Lansky defeated Han in the first set, 6-4, but Han bounced right back to even the match with a 6-4 win. Han fell in the final set, 6-2.
The fifth singles match was the final to conclude, as
Caroline Lemcke played in a thriller. Lemcke fell in the first set, but forced a tiebreaker, ultimately falling 7-6, 7-2. She responded with a 6-4 win in the middle set before the pair would play anther tiebreak that UCSD's Gamracy won, 10-6. Despite the loss, the Big Green came away with the 4-3 match victory over the Tritons.
