CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Dartmouth softball team won its series against Harvard, defending against a late push from the Crimson to earn the series-clinching 12-11 victory on Sunday at Soldiers Field. This marks the Big Green's first series win against the Crimson since 2014, when they won three of four in a four game series to clinch the Ivy League title.
Game One
Dartmouth's offense erupted early, highlighted by a seven-run second inning that helped the Big Green build a sizable lead. The visitors finished with 12 runs on 12 hits, using power and timely hitting to outlast the Crimson in a back-and-forth contest.
Hayvin Barclay led Dartmouth at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks. Faby Serna added a strong performance with two hits, three runs scored and three RBIs, while Justice Malone launched a two-run home run and drew two walks.
Sydney Herrmann also went deep for the Big Green, finishing with a two-run homer and two RBIs. Olivia Schramm contributed a double and two RBIs, and Ashley Frantz drove in two runs as Dartmouth continued to apply pressure throughout the lineup.
In the circle, Isabel Kirby earned the win in relief, pitching 4.2 innings with three strikeouts. Kirby entered in the second inning and helped stabilize the game after Harvard scored early runs.
Harvard kept the pressure on offensively with 15 hits and cut into the deficit late with a three-run seventh inning. However, Dartmouth held on to secure the one-run victory.
Game Two
The second game also proved to be a thriller, with Dartmouth falling in a high-scoring, extra-inning matchup against Harvard, 13-12.
The Big Green offense came out strong, plating three runs in the opening inning before adding two more in the second to take an early lead. Dartmouth continued to pressure the Crimson defense throughout the game, finishing with 12 runs on 16 hits.
Dartmouth added another three runs in the fourth inning to maintain momentum before pushing across one run in the sixth and three more in the seventh. Despite the late surge, Harvard responded in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings to secure the one-run victory.
Serna paced the Big Green at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and a double. Herrmann delivered a key swing with a three-run home run, while Marilyn Beauvais finished 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Frantz added two hits and two runs, and Malone recorded two hits, an RBI and a walk. Anna Fagan started in the circle for Dartmouth and struck out four across seven innings of work.
