HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader to Cornell on Saturday at Dartmouth Softball Park, falling 9-8 in the opener before a 14-9 extra innings loss in game two.

Game One

Dartmouth wasted no time in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs to take control early. Lauren Ben-Ezra led off with a walk, followed by back-to-back walks from Faby Serna and Justice Malone to load the bases. Olivia Schramm then drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the first run. A Cornell error allowed Marilyn Beauvais on base, causing another run to score, and Sydney Gresham followed with a walk, then Malone scored on a wild pitch.Cwen Wilson capped the inning with an RBI single to right field, giving the Big Green a 4-0 lead.

After Cornell began to chip away, Dartmouth added to its advantage in the fourth inning when Wilson launched a solo home run, extending the lead to 5-2.The Big Green answered again in the fifth after Cornell surged in front. Malone worked another walk, and Schramm delivered the biggest swing of the day with a two-run home run, her first of the season, putting Dartmouth back on top, 7-6.

Cornell responded with runs in the sixth and seventh innings to regain the lead, but Dartmouth had one final rally in the bottom of the seventh. Sydney Herrmann singled to open the inning, and after Dartmouth loaded the bases, Georgia Bilski lifted a sacrifice fly to score Hayvin Barclay and cut the deficit to one. However, the Big Green could not complete the comeback, falling 9-8.

Game Two

The Big Green opened the scoring in the first inning, as Serna singled and later came around on a sacrifice fly by Herrmann to take an early 1-0 lead.

Dartmouth added on in the third when Beauvais drove in a run with a double, and Samantha Gresham followed with an RBI fielder's choice to extend the lead to 3-0. After Cornell put one on the board in the fourth, Dartmouth responded with its biggest swing of the game.

Following a pair of singles, Justice Malone launched a three-run home run to give the Big Green a 6-1 advantage. Cornell answered in the fifth with a four-run inning to cut into the lead, but Dartmouth pushed another run across in the bottom half when Ben-Ezra delivered an RBI double to make it 7-5.

The momentum shifted in the seventh, as Cornell scored four runs to take a 9-7 lead. Dartmouth answered right back in the bottom of the inning, with Gresham reaching before Bilski crushed a two-run home run to center field, tying the game at 9-9 and forcing extras.

In the eighth, Cornell scored five runs to pull ahead. Dartmouth attempted a comeback in their half, as Malone doubled and advanced to third, but were unable to do so.

The Big Green will close their series against Cornell tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at the Dartmouth Softball Park.
