Field Hockey Shuts Out Penn for First Ivy Win Since 2023

HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth field hockey snapped a pair of lengthy droughts Thursday, shutting out Penn, 4-0, at home for its first Ivy League win since 2023 and its first win over Penn since 2014. The victory also marked head coach Jason Klinkradt's first Ivy League win in his first year as head coach. The Big Green improve to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in Ivy League play, while Penn falls to 1-5 and 0-2 in the league.

Dartmouth needed just 43 seconds to get on the board. Lilly Venezia buried her second goal of the season off an assist from Ava Russo, giving the Big Green the lead before the game was even a minute old. Dartmouth controlled much of the rest of the first quarter, working a Riley Dumigan penalty corner for a look that went just wide, and carried the 1-0 edge into the second.

Penn came out with more pressure in the second quarter, testing Kylie McKinley with shots from Sydney Mandato and Victoria Manzur, but the senior goalkeeper was up to the task each time. Dartmouth got a save of its own out of Penn's Ruby de Frees on a bid from Ella Bowman late in the quarter, and the Big Green took their one-goal cushion into the half still in firm control.

Dartmouth blew the game open in the third. The Big Green earned back-to-back penalty corners late in the quarter, and Lucia Campaño finally broke through, scoring her second goal of the season off the ensuing sequence to make it 2-0. Less than a minute later, Ruby Walsh added another to extend the lead to 3-0, and McKinley made one more save down the stretch to keep Penn off the board and send Dartmouth to the fourth with a commanding cushion.

The Big Green put the finishing touch on the win in the fourth. Penn pushed for a response, drawing a pair of penalty corners and getting a shot saved by McKinley, but Dartmouth's defense held firm. Walsh capped the scoring with her second goal of the match, this one assisted by Amelie Luessmann, to make it 4-0 and put an exclamation point on the shutout.

Walsh led the way for Dartmouth with two goals, while Venezia and Campaño each added one of their own — four different Big Green players finding the scoresheet across a balanced offensive night. McKinley was outstanding in net, turning aside all six shots she faced to secure the shutout, her first of the season and her career. The win moves Dartmouth to 1-1 in Ivy League play as the Big Green continue conference action.
