A veteran of nearly two decades as a collegiate coach, Aashon (pronounced uh-SHAWN) Larkins comes to Hanover to serve as the assistant coach overseeing the secondary under interim head coach Sammy McCorkle.

Larkins spent a little more than a year at the University of Mississippi under head coach Lane Kiffin as the lead analyst for the safeties. He helped the Rebels finish the year with an 8-5 record and 4-4 mark in the SEC, earning a berth in the TaxAct Texas Bowl against Texas Tech.

Prior to Ole Miss, Larkins spent just over two years on staff at the University of Michigan under head coach Jim Harbaugh, beginning in the winter of 2019 as a defensive analyst. When the safeties coach was unable to perform his duties in 2020, Larkins stepped into the role for the six games before the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was then promoted to the director of recruiting for a year before going to Ole Miss in February 2022.

Larkins has plenty of experience at the FCS level, most recently at Bethune-Cookman (2015-18) as the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach while serving as the recruiting coordinator in his final season. He spent the 2014 season as the special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach at Jacksonville State, mentoring All-American CB Jermaine Hough.

From 2006-13, Larkins was on staff at The Citadel, starting as the cornerbacks coach before taking over as special teams coordinator in 2009 while coaching the safeties (2009) then the linebackers (2010-13). Two of his Bulldog players were selected in the NFL Draft — cornerback Cortez Allen (2011 fourth round) and wide receiver/punt returner Andre Roberts (2010 third round) — and another, Domonic Jones, set an FCS record with five blocked punts in a season (2011).

Larkins began his professional coaching career as the cornerbacks coach at Holy Cross under former Crusader head coach (and former Big Green assistant) Tom Gilmore in 2004 before going to Wagner the following year as the defensive backs coach and academic coordinator. The Seahawks set a school record with 21 interceptions that season while cornerback Al Phillips earned All-America honors. He has also held several internships, from pro personnel intern with the Philadelphia Eagles in the summer of 2003, and the Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellowship with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the summer of 2021.

A 2003 graduate of Lehigh University as a double major in psychology and sociology, Larkins spent the 2003 season as a student assistant at his alma mater.
