Taurian Houston joined Dartmouth Athletics in April 2023 as the Executive Associate Athletics Director for Administration, marking his second tenure with the Big Green.
In his current role, Houston provides strategic leadership and coordination across Dartmouth’s 35 varsity sports programs. He leads the sport administration team and serves as a key liaison between the athletics department and internal units such as the business office, compliance, external relations, and human resources. He also has direct sport oversight of Field Hockey, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Baseball, and Softball.
Houston collaborates with several campus partners, including Integrity & Compliance, Safety and Security, Community Standards & Accountability, Dining Services, and the Office of General Counsel. As Dartmouth Athletics’ Deputy Title IX Coordinator, he works closely with the Equal Opportunity, Accessibility, and Title IX Office to deliver annual education and training to staff and student-athletes.
At the conference level, Houston represents Dartmouth as a member of the Ivy League’s Senior Administrator Group and the Basketball Tournament Working Group. Nationally, he serves on the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Sport Administrator Leadership Institute Committee, which supports the professional development of athletic administrators at all levels.
Prior to returning to Dartmouth, Houston spent more than four years at Rice University (2018–2023), where he served as Associate Athletics Director for Compliance before being promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Administration. In this role, he oversaw all aspects of NCAA, conference, and institutional compliance for Rice’s 16 varsity programs and led the department’s name, image, and likeness (NIL) efforts. He also served as sport supervisor for football, men’s basketball, and women’s cross country/track and field, and was a member of Rice’s Task Force on Student Success & Retention.
Earlier in his career, Houston spent three years at Colgate University (2015–2018) as Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance, overseeing compliance for 25 varsity programs. He also served as sport supervisor for football, volleyball, softball, women’s lacrosse, swimming and diving, and track and field. Additionally, he was a NCAA site representative for the 2016 and 2017 Women’s Lacrosse Championships and the 2016 Field Hockey Championship, and served as the championship manager for the 2015 Patriot League Cross Country Championship.
Houston began his career in college athletics administration at Dartmouth as a Compliance Specialist (2014–2015), following a postgraduate internship at the NCAA national office (2013–2014).
He has served on the Board of Directors for the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) and chaired the NCAA Division I Initial Eligibility Waivers Committee. He is also an active member of the Minority Opportunities Athletics Association (MOAA), and has participated in several prestigious professional development programs, including the NCAA Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute, NCAA Pathway Program, and Collegiate Athletic Leadership Symposium.
A former Division I track and field student-athlete, Houston earned his bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in business administration from East Carolina University. He holds a juris doctorate from Charlotte School of Law.
Houston lives in the Upper Valley with his wife, Tammara, and their son, TJ.
