Richard Whitmore joined the athletics administration in 2008, being promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director before the 2011-12 school year and Deputy Athletics Director in 2021. With 24 years of experience in collegiate athletics, “Whit” supervises the administration of football, baseball, and men's and women's golf, plus directs and oversees the planning and development, management and operations of Dartmouth’s sport and recreational facilities.

Before coming to Dartmouth, he spent nine years at Wesleyan University as an Associate Director of Athletics. Prior to Wesleyan, Whitmore spent six years coaching college basketball and baseball at Kenyon College and Daniel Webster College. A 1990 graduate of Brown, Whitmore earned his master's from Wesleyan in 2011 and was a two-sport letterman for the Bears in basketball and golf.

He lives in Hanover with his wife Kathleen and daughters, Allison and Melissa.
