APALACHIN, N.Y.—The Dartmouth men's golf team competed in the Matthews Auto Invitational on Sunday and Monday. Dartmouth finished eighth in the 36-hole tournament with a score of +14.
Tyler Brand was the top finisher for the Big Green as he finished T-23 with a +1 145. On Sunday in the first round, he shot an even 72. On the back nine he recorded three birdies, and an eagle on 18 as he was -3 on the back on Sunday. On Monday, he shot a +1 73 with birdies on two of the three par 5's on the course.
Benjamin Wang was just one stroke back of Brand as he finished T-31 at +2. He opened the tournament by shooting an even 72 with two birdies on 12 and 18. In the second round he came out and shot a +5 41 on the front but rebounded on the back nine with three birdies and no bogeys to finish the day +2.
Aaron Zhang played as an individual for the 36 hole tournament and finished T-38 at +4. In the first round he shot a +5 77 with a birdie on 18. On Monday, he tallied seven birdies while carding a -1 71 in the final round. The -1 71 is the lowest round he had shot since he shot a 67 at the Columbia Autumn Invitational on Sept. 29, 2023.
Ian Davis tied for 42nd as he finished +5 over the two rounds. He opened the tournament with a +2 74 after having a clean back nine that featured two birdies and seven pars. On Monday he carded a +3 75 with four birdies and seven pars in an up and down round that saw three birdies after bogeys.
Luke Harper finished tied for 50th in his third collegiate tournament. After shooting a +6 78 in the opening round he rebounded with an even 72 in the second round. He used birdies on three, nine, and 16 to end his tournament on a high note.
Cameron Keith closed out the tournament for the Big Green as he finished tied for 64th at +11. In the opening round he started the day with a birdie on the first while finishing with a 79. On Monday, he improved by three strokes as he shot a +4 76.
The Big Green are set to play just one more tournament this fall. Dartmouth travels to Burlington, North Carolina for the Elon Phoenix Invitational on Monday, Oct. 13 and Tuesday, Oct. 14 at the Alamance Country Club.
