Wang, Brand Earn Top-Five Finishes as Men's Golf Takes Fourth at Columbia Autumn Invitational

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Dartmouth men's golf team finished fourth out of 13 teams at the Columbia Autumn Invitational at the Lake Placid Club on Saturday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 4.

The Big Green posted a three-round total of 857 strokes (+5), carding rounds of 286 (+2), 284 (E), and 287 (+3). Dartmouth was five strokes behind third-place Cornell after 36 holes, then cut that deficit to a single stroke in the final round as Cornell finished at 856 (+4). Host Columbia claimed the team title at 846 (-6), five strokes clear of runner-up Colgate (851, -1). Dartmouth finished 10 strokes ahead of fifth-place Lehigh, which tallied 867 strokes (+15).

"Great weekend, we fell short of our goal," said Rich Parker, the Bill Johnson Head Coach of Men's Golf. "Kids played really good all weekend. Need to sharpen up the short game and get ready for next week. Ben Wang -5 tied for second played awesome all three rounds. Tyler Brand was -4 and finished fourth and followed up by Luke, Chris and Jordan. The young kids on the backend will get better as we go and we will be right there. Lake Placid is always a special event for us and we loved every minute of it. It's like a home game for our crew!"

Benjamin Wang paced Dartmouth, tying for second at 208 (-5). Wang opened with back-to-back rounds of 70 (-1), then saved his best for last with a 3-under 68 that moved him up three spots on the final day. He finished five strokes behind medalist Tom Yu of Columbia (203, -10) and tied with Cornell's Shep Davis.

Tyler Brand was right behind him, finishing alone in fourth at 209 (-4). After opening with an even-par 71, Brand fired a 5-under 66 in the second round before closing with a 72 (+1).

Luke Harper tied for 34th at 221 (+8) with rounds of 72 (+1), 73 (+2), and 76 (+5). Chris Chang improved in every round, finishing with an even-par 71 to tie for 47th at 224 (+11). Jordan Takai rounded out the Dartmouth lineup, tying for 58th at 228 (+15).

Competing as individuals, Colin Keith tied for 78th at 236 (+23), and Ian Davis finished 87th at 250 (+37). Davis also improved in each round, closing with a 78 (+7).
