Watkins is entering her second season with the Big Green, having helped the team win a share of the Ivy League title in 2018 as she coached hitting, base running, infield defense, slapping and other aspects of the game.
Watkins’ coaching career began at the University of Illinois where she was the volunteer assistant coach for two seasons (2016-17). The Fighting Illini boasted a combined record of 75-43 (.636) during her tenure, finishing fourth in the 14-team league in 2017. Watkins helped implement practice plans, review flim, organize and create scouting reports, and perform administrative tasks.
Following a four-year collegiate playing career at Western Kentucky, Watkins became the first Hilltopper to sign with the National Pro Fastpitch League, first with the Akron Racers in 2014, then the Pennsylvania Rebellion the following two years. In the summer of 2017, she was a member of the Houston Scrap Yard Dawgs, which won the Cowles Cup as the league champion.
A 2015 graduate of WKU with a degree in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in science, Watkins was a two-time NFCA All-Region and All-Sun Belt First Team performer for the Hilltoppers. She finished her career with program records for batting average (.380) and stolen bases (117), plus ranked in the top five with a .421 career on-base percentage, 130 runs, 200 hits and 55 multi-hit games. As a senior in 2014, she set WKU single-season records for batting average (.442), runs (51), hits (87) and stolen bases (55 in 58 attempts).
