Aylene Ilkson was named an assistant coach in February of 2015
Ilkson joins the Big Green program after serving as Coast Guard’s head coach for two years. She led the Bears to a record of 41-21 and a .661 winning percentage, while guiding the team to a pair of berths in the semifinals of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament.
Prior to arriving at Coast Guard, Ilkson was the top assistant at Springfield. The Pride went to the NCAA tournament all three seasons Ilkson was on the staff, making it to the Elite 8 in 2011. The team also won the NEWMAC championship in 2011.
During her own playing career at Springfield, she was a four-year starter, two-time all-conference and All-New England performer for the Pride as the team won the 2008 NEWMAC championship. She earned All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 2008. She is third all-time in digs (1,593), fourth in digs per game (3.54) and in the top 10 in career kills at Springfield.
Ilkson, who earned the 2013 AVCA Minority Scholarship, began her coaching career as a student assistant coach with the Springfield men’s program during the 2009 season before being named the head coach of the girls volleyball team at Oceanside High School in Oceanside, New York.
Ilkson graduated from Springfield in 2009 with a degree in movement and sports studies and received her master’s degree in athletic administration. Ilkson is currently working towards her certificate of graduate studies in advanced coaching.
