Sofia Lopez-Acosta joined the Dartmouth volleyball program as an assistant coach in August 2023.
Lopez-Acosta came to Hanover after spending four seasons as an assistant coach at Canisius, where she also enjoyed two successful years as a student-athlete. The Golden Griffins posted a winning record in the MAAC during each season with Lopez-Acosta on the sideline, including a 12-6 conference mark in the 2019 campaign that featured a First Team All-MAAC selection in Leah Simmons. Canisius ranked second in the nation in digs per set (20.61) during an abbreviated 2021 spring season and three-time All-Conference honoree Ella Loussia recently ranked fifth in the country in aces per set (0.65) and recorded a program-best 67 aces during the 2022 season.

A 2019 Canisius graduate, Lopez-Acosta was named the 2018 MAAC Libero of the Year after leading the conference in digs per set (5.55), eventually finishing her career with more than 1,000 career digs in just two seasons with the Golden Griffins. The Mexicali, Mexico native previously played two seasons at Arizona Western College. Lopez-Acosta received her bachelor's degree in sport management and master's in sport administration, both from Canisius.
