Courtney joins the Big Green as the Director of Basketball Operations after spending two seasons with the University of Miami men’s basketball team, where he served as a graduate assistant.
Prior to his time with the Hurricanes, Courtney began his career at his alma mater, the University of Notre Dame, where he served as a manager for the men’s basketball team from 2019 to 2023. In both roles, his key responsibilities have been assisting in scouting (specifically defensively), analytics and on-court development of players.
“Bill Courtney is someone I feel incredibly fortunate to add to our staff — I’ve joked that it feels like winning the draft lottery because I truly could not have found a better young prospect in this profession,” MacConnell said.
The Ithaca, N.Y. native earned his bachelor’s degree in business analytics from Notre Dame in 2023, and is currently finishing his master's in sports administration at Miami. He has experience on the biggest stage in college basketball, working with teams that have won games in the NCAA tournament. In 2022, Courtney worked with the Fighting Irish as they reached the second round, then experienced similar success as the Hurricanes advanced to the second round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
“Bill is smart, driven, and exceptionally organized, and he’ll help us present our program the way we envision it: as a high-level program with championship standards. Beyond that, Bill brings an analytical basketball mind and a fresh perspective that will positively impact our coaching, scouting, and recruiting decisions every day.” MacConnell added.
