For most of the Big Green teams are wrapping up their winter seasons and moving outdoors for the spring. Local athlete Emma Supattapone finishes her second season (actually, her first due to last season being canceled) in fine fashion, winning the Holleran Cup for the women’s squash team. Brendan Barry used up the last of his eligibility for the men’s basketball team, setting a Dartmouth career record with 244 3-point baskets.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Brendan Barry, Gr., Fair Haven, N.J., G, Men’s Basketball
Brendan Barry capped his extended Dartmouth career by breaking the men’s basketball program record for 3-pointers in a career, draining four in the season-ending 76-54 rout at Harvard. The graduate drilled two late in the first half in a 40-second span to tie the record held by Jim Barton ’89 for 33 years, then broke the mark with 13:23 remaining, bringing the loud Dartmouth crowd on hand to their feet. Barry added one more triple to his total before all was said and done and tallied a team-high 19 points in the Big Green’s largest margin of victory over the Crimson in 30 years. He finished his career with 244 3-pointers and 1,160 points, 17th in the Dartmouth annals, while also ranking in the top 10 in assists (291) and minutes played (3,340).
