Despite the threat of snow in the northeast and an actual blizzard in New York, the Big Green came away from the weekend with impressive wins. Leading the way for the women’s tennis team at Boss Tennis Center were doubles partner Chidimma Okpara and Ashley Hess. Not only did they win their doubles points in two matches but were also successful in singles. Down in snowy New York City the men’s basketball team topped the Lions of Columbia with graduate Aaryn Rai dropping 20 points, 18 of which came in the second half of a 76-63 victory.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Aaryn Rai, Gr., Markham, Ontario, F, Men’s Basketball
Aaryn Rai made sure the Dartmouth men’s basketball team came away from snowy New York City with a victory by scoring 18 of his 20 points in the second half in the 76-63 triumph at Columbia this past Saturday. The fifth-year senior carried the Big Green for a five-minute stretch, scoring 14 consecutive points to keep the Lions tamed. It was the third 20-point game of the season for Rai and the fifth of his career. The do-everything native of Markham, Ontario, is one of just three players to rank in the top 15 in the Ivy League in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.
