About the Facility
On Monday, September 18, 2000, a new era of tennis began at Dartmouth as the Alexis Boss Tennis Center and Alan D. Gordon Pavilion officially opened. The six-court facility is the home for the Dartmouth men's and women's tennis teams and features a lounge, two public locker rooms, two tennis team locker rooms, mezzanine seating and a team meeting room.
Dartmouth's athletic gem honors Alexis Boss '93, who won All-Ivy recognition in singles and doubles five times before losing a gallant battle to brain cancer in 1995. The pavilion also recognizes Alan D. Gordon '77, captain of the men's squash team in 1976-77 and also a varsity tennis player.

Normally, it's the attention to details that make a structure stand out. But sometimes it's the attention to the lack of details.
There is not a lot of high-end detailing in this building, which is generally the case on large athletic buildings, says Jim Pulver of Bread Loaf Corp., a full-service provider of planning, architecture and building in Middlebury, Vt. So the design quality is a result of using big ideas concerning the layout of the spaces and adjacencies on each level.
And in this regard, the center - named for the late Alexis Boss, a former member of the Dartmouth tennis team - succeeds beautifully.
The Boss Tennis Center and Alan Gordon Pavilion have been more than just a training facility for us—it has been a second home, a place where we truly belong. Our team has immense respect for the way Dave Jones meticulously cares for this special place, making it a cherished space for us all. Once we graduate, we will miss having a space as special as Boss, where the Dartmouth tennis program goes beyond the game itself, bringing together past, present, and future players, along with our families, friends, and the entire Upper Valley community. Each time we set foot on these courts, we are honored to continue the legacy of Alexis Boss, striving to make the Dartmouth tennis community proud in everything we do. Through the highs and lows of college tennis, one thing remains stable: Boss will always be a place we can call home.
— Women's captains Liz Fahrmeier '25 and Ujvala Jupalli '25
The Boss Tennis Center is more than a facility for Dartmouth Tennis: it's home. This is the place where every member of our team has spent countless hours striving for excellence, but also building lifelong friendships and connections. As competitors in a sport characterized by individualism, the Boss Tennis Center is where most of us have learned what it means to be part of a team. It is also the place where members of the Dartmouth Tennis programs experienced the Upper Valley community for the first time through the crowd's unwavering support during matches and the amazing interactions experienced during community events. For these lessons, these memories, and so much more, we are incredibly grateful to have the Boss Tennis Center.
— Men's captains Carlos Guerrero Alvarez '25 and Miles Groom '26
We're very fortunate to have a facility like this on our campus. It's allowed us to have a first-class place in which to practice and play and has been a great addition for the local community.
— Men's Head Coach Emeritus Chuck Kinyon
The Boss Tennis Center is without a doubt one of the best indoor facilities in the nation for playing dual matches, hosting tournaments, and fan viewing. We are incredibly lucky to be able to practice here each day and provide our student athletes with a seamless transition from outdoor tennis to indoor tennis. The setting provides an incredible atmosphere for team practice but more importantly the atmosphere created by our great fans on dual match day is second to none!
— Men's Head Coach Justin DeSanto
It's a great advantage for our program to be able to play and practice in one of the finest facilities in the country. It makes everything we're trying to do that much better. The Boss Center is a great place to practice and play in. It gives our program a large advantage as we continue to develop our players to their ultimate potential.
— Women's Head Coach Bob Dallis
