Men's Lightweight Rowing
at Harvard

Trevor Michelson enters his fifth year as head coach of the Dartmouth Lightweights in 2026-27. He was initially hired as an assistant with the lightweight team prior to the 2017-18 season and spent one year coaching the Dartmouth Women (2020-2021).Â
Â
Under his tutelage, the Dartmouth Lightweights have qualified for the IRA National Championship the last three years, after a 10-year hiatus.
In the 2025-26 campaign, the Big Green impressed in the spring championship season, picking up medals at both Eastern Sprints and the IRA National Championship. At Sprints, Dartmouth rowed to a third-place finish, claiming the Big Green's first medal since 2012. They also earned bronze in the Varsity 8 race at the National Championship, returning to Hanover with Dartmouth's first National Championship medal since 2012. The Big Green finished third as a team, their second straight podium finish. Lightweight rowing also won its third straight Subin Cup over Columbia during the regular season.
In 2024, the Lightweights won the Subin and Durand cups, placed fourth at the Eastern Sprints in the Varsity and finished fifth as a team at the National Championship.Â
Â
Six of Michelson’s rowers have gone on to represent the United States at the Under-23 World Championships, including an all-Dartmouth quad that made the A final, finishing sixth at the 2021 World Championships in Racice, Czech Republic.
Â
Michelson has extensive experience coaching at the international level. He coached the junior men’s double and Under 23 lightweight quad at the 2018 and 2021 World Championships respectively, and the USA coxed four to a bronze medal at the 2023 Under 23 World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. In 2024, he once again coached the United States coxed four, this time winning Gold.Â
Â
Before making the move to Hanover, the New York City native was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at his alma mater (Wesleyan) for the men’s rowing program, and was the head coach for the Vesper Boat Club’s Under 23 Lightweight men’s team for two summers. Michelson spent one year at Fordham University working with both the men’s and women’s crew teams in coaching and boatman positions, respectively.
Â
Michelson spent his college years as a four-year varsity rower at Wesleyan (2010-13), where he was a team captain and MVP, as well as a first team All-NESAC selection. He competed at the World University Games in 2015 as the U.S. Lightweight Single Sculler. Michelson holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Wesleyan.Â
