RALEIGH, N.C. - Despite 17 points from senior Angie Soriaga (College Station, Texas), including the 1,000th point of her career, the Dartmouth women's basketball team (10-4) dropped a 78-43 decision to N. C. State (12-6) on Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum.
"It was a great effort, but there is nothing that we can do to simulate the athleticism of N.C. State," said Dartmouth head coach Chris Wielgus. "Dartmouth basketball is about excellence and challenging ourselves. We played much better in the second half than the first half once we adjusted to the level of play. This experience can only be a positive."
Soriaga was 7-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-5 from three-point range. She also had two assists and four steals.
"I was really pleased with her performance," added Wielgus. "For her to be able to score like that with the amount of pressure they put on her was amazing. I thought Fatima Kamara also had a great game for us."
Kamara (Carrollton, Texas) finished with seven points and three assists. Sophomore Sydney Scott (Houston, Texas) led the team on the boards with seven.
Dartmouth fell behind early, 23-4, and trailed 32-13 at the half. The Big Green shot just 23.8 percent in the period, but did limit the Wolfpack to 35.3 percent accuracy. Both teams improved greatly in the second half as Dartmouth connected on 41.4 percent of its attempts and N.C. State hit on 63.3 percent of its shots, preventing any Big Green comeback.
The Wolfpack had four players in double figures, led by Marquetta Dickens who had 13 points. Tiffany Stansbury registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
The Big Green will be in action again on Friday, January 27, when it hosts Brown at Leede Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
