HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's hockey team rebounded from its first loss of the season this afternoon, defeating new ECAC Hockey League foe Quinnipiac, 5-2. The Big Green was led by senior captain Tiffany Hagge (Coon Rapids, Minn.), who tallied a pair of goals and an assist in the game.
The Bobcats opened the scoring at 10:19 of the first when Vicky Graham scored on the power play. The assists went to Antoinette Maldo and Kathryn Dallimore, and the teams entered the first intermission with Quinnipiac up, 1-0.
Dartmouth took control of the game in the second, scoring three unanswered goals. Senior Danielle Grundy (Kelowna, B.C.) started the onslaught, potting her first of the season at 2:49 off assists from Hagge and junior Meredith Batcheller (Cleveland Heights, Ohio). At nine minutes even, Dartmouth took a 2-1 lead when sophomore Carrie Thompson scored her first of the season, with freshman Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.) earning her first collegiate point with the assist.
Hagge scored the eventual gamewinner at 15:53, just one second after a Big Green power play expired. Grundy and freshman Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.) earned assists on the goal.
Hagge iced the game just 25 seconds into the third period when she scored on an odd-man rush off passes from Grundy and freshman Shannon Bowman (Leamington, Ont.), who has started her collegiate career with a three-game point streak.
Assistant captain Caroline Ethier (Matagami, Que.) scored Dartmouth's final goal on the power play at 4:48 of the third. Quinnipiac added a goal by Kristin Emerick to provide the final score.
Dartmouth went 2-for-8 on the power play, while the Bobcats were 2-for-7. Senior Kate Lane (Wingham, Ont.) made 16 saves to earn the victory, while Connie Craig stopped 31 shots for Quinnipiac.
