New York, N.Y. – Dartmouth freshman Daniel Keat (Wellington, New Zealand) scored his third Ivy League game-winning goal of the season as his team downed Columbia, 1-0.
The Big Green improved to 5-6-3 (3-1-1 Ivy) in the critical league contest, dropping the Lions to 6-6-2 (0-3-2 Ivy).
Dartmouth wasted little time challenging Columbia goalkeeper Michael Testa, taking control of the offense early in the game. The Lions fought back, however, to take three consecutive corner kicks, all foiled by Dartmouth's tough back line.
The Big Green capitalized on a free kick opportunity to start a new offensive set. Junior Mike Ordonez (Coral Gables, Fla.) continued his impressive play of late, finding Keat who chipped the ball over the goalkeeper's head at 25:27.
Following the goal, Dartmouth kept the pressure on Columbia, taking four more corner kicks in the half. The Big Green outshot the Lions, 7-3, in the period, but Testa made three saves to keep the game within reach for the home team.
The squads played a more even contest in the second half, each taking six shots. The Lions tested senior goalkeeper Rowan Anders (Qualicum Beach, B.C.) but he came up with three big saves to preserve the shutout, the 18th of his career. He and the Big Green continued to attack offensively while holding down the defense to take the 1-0 win.
Keat has scored four of Dartmouth's five Ivy League goals, including all three game-winners and the game-tying goal against Brown.
The Big Green is back in action this week when it heads to Vermont at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday for its final non-conference contest of the season.
