HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's basketball team launched a second half comeback but it was not enough as Colgate defeated the Big Green 55-43 in
Dartmouth's home opener on Saturday in Leede Arena. The victory gives the Raiders a 1-1 record while Dartmouth falls to 0-3.
Colgate took a 25-20 lead into the locker room after leading by as much as 11. Sophomore Alex Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.), who scored Dartmouth's first six points of the game, and Michael Giovacchini (Salt Lake City, Utah) brought the Big Green within five twice in the final four minutes, but couldn't even the score.
The Raiders increased their lead early in the second stanza, but Dartmouth battled back and tied the game with 15:37 left, off a jumper by Dan Biber (Lorain, Ohio). The Big Green stayed with Colgate for the next couple of baskets but the Raiders pulled away and led by as much as 13. The Big Green went on a six-minute period without a field goal mid-way through the half.
Barnett ended the night leading the Big Green with 12 points while pulling down three rebounds with one block and one steal. Brian McMillan (Valparaiso, Ind.) was Dartmouth top rebounder with seven while adding five points. Colgate was led by Kendall Chones with 14 points while brother Kyle Chones added three and led the team in rebounding with eight.
The Big Green continues its home stand on Wednesday, Nov. 22 with a 7:00 pm match-up with Siena.
