Mt. Pleasant, Mich. ? A balanced attack led Central Michigan (6-4) to a 68-49 win over Dartmouth (2-7) this evening. Junior forward Sydney Scott (Houston, Texas) recorded Dartmouth's first double-double of the season on 14 rebounds and 11 points.
The squads played a messy first half, combining for 21 turnovers in a back-and-forth battle. The teams traded buckets in the early going before Central went on a 13-2 run to go up 18-7 at 12:04. Sophomore Darcy Rose (Fort Collins, Colo.) scored four-straight to stop the bleeding for the Big Green.
Turnovers and fouls on both ends continued to prevent Dartmouth from getting into an offensive rhythm. The closest the Big Green came in the half was a 26-21 deficit after senior Ashley Taylor (Cookeville, Tenn.) scored seven-straight. Central applied pressure late in the half to force Dartmouth turnovers and took a 29-21 advantage into the locker room.
The second half proved more of the same as Dartmouth was unable to maintain a sustained offensive threat. Taylor pulled the team within four, down 34-30 at 15:20, but that was the closest the Big Green would come, as Central had an answer for everything it put up.
Scott and Fatima Kamara (Carollton, Texas) finished strong, but it was too late, as Central had pulled too far ahead.
Taylor led all scorers with 19 points along with five assists.
The Big Green shot just 32.7 percent from the field, while Central connected on 45.8 percent of its shots.
Dartmouth will have a week-long holiday break before returning home to face #4 Duke in the Blue Sky Classic on Dec. 29.
