HANOVER, N.H. ? With 18 points, Abby Waner led five Duke players in double figures and the No. 3 Blue Devils went on to a 77-40 victory over Dartmouth in the second game of the Big Green's Blue Sky Restaurant Group Classic Friday night.
“I'm delighted at the effort that our team had especially in the second half,” said Dartmouth Head Coach Chris Wielgus. “I was pleased that we were able to make adjustments at halftime and spread the floor better. I told them that every time we forced Duke to shoot with under 10 seconds on the shot clock ? I considered that a victory.”
In front of a crowd of 2,153, a Dartmouth record for women's basketball, Duke (13-0) raced out to a 48-17 lead at halftime as Waner scored 14 of her 18 in the opening 20 minutes.
Dartmouth (2-8) played the Blue Devils more evenly in the second half as Duke outscored the Big Green by a 29-23 margin. The Big Green opened the half on an 11-4 run in the first nine minutes.
For the Big Green, sophomore guard Koren Schram (Batesville, Ark.) matched Waner with 18 points, including four 3-point baskets. Senior guard Ashley Taylor (Cookeville, Tenn.) tallied nine points and four assists.
Duke had double figure games from four others, including 6-7 Alison Bales, Lindsey Harding and Emily Waner, each with 12 points. Bridgette Mitchell added 10 as the Blue Devils were 51.8 percent from the floor. Duke was the national runner-up in 2006, losing to Maryland in the NCAA championship game.
Duke will take on Boston University in the championship game at 7 p.m. on Saturday. BU defeated Dayton, 77-74.
Dartmouth will host the Flyers at 5 p.m. in the consolation game.
