HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's hockey team received a goal from freshman Marley McMillan late in the third period to pull out the victory over Colgate, 2-1. The win brings the Big Green into a tie for seventh in the ECAC Hockey League with three games remaining.
Dartmouth opened the scoring at 15:56 of the first when junior Caroline Ethier (Matagami, Que.) knocked one in from the left side of the net during a power play to give the Big Green the lead, 1-0. Senior Danielle Grundy (Kelowna, B.C.) and freshman Sarah Newnam (Lexington, Ky.) earned assists on the play.
Kara Leene answered in the second period for Colgate, potting a rebound in front of the net to knot the game, 1-1. But Dartmouth was not going to be denied, and McMillan (St. Paul, Minn.) put the Big Green ahead for good at 13:11 of the third period. Assisting on the play were sophomore Amy Cobb (Edina, Minn.) and freshman Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.)
Freshman Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) stopped 24 shots to earn the victory, while senior Lauren Balukjian (Greenville, R.I.) didn't face a shot after starting the game before Clemis relieved her. Brook Wheeler made 32 saves for the Raiders.
The Big Green went 1-7 on the power play while Colgate (10-12-7, 7-7-3 ECACHL) went 1-4 with the extra skater.
Dartmouth (10-10-4, 7-7-3 ECACHL) returns to Thompson Arena tomorrow afternoon for Senior Day against Cornell. Gametime is set for 4 p.m.
