HANOVER, N.H. -- With only four final events contested on the opening day of action at the Heptagonal indoor championship, senior Steve Mucchetti (Ridgefield, Conn.) picked up points for the Dartmouth men's track and field team, this year's host of the annual event.
Mucchetti was fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:17.91, well under the IC4A qualifying standard.
Finals were also contested in the long jump, pole vault and weight throw, and the Big Green advanced six athletes to Sunday's finals.
Sophomore Mike Carmody (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) had the day's fastest time in the 800 meters with 1:52.34, advancing to Sunday's final.
In the 60 meter dash, three Dartmouth runners will compete on Sunday. Sophomore Brian Evans (Fairfield, Texas) in 6.92, junior Fatih Stanley (North York, Ont.) with 6.94 and senior Ikechi Ogbonna (Bronx, N.Y.) with 6.96 all qualified for Sunday's final.
Ogbonna also will compete in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles after his time of 8.09 in the preliminaries.
Sophomore Charlie Stoebe (Westport, Conn.) advanced with his time of 1:05.22 in the 500 meter dash, along with sophomore Harry Norton (Exeter, N.H.) who turned in 4:13.37 in the prelims of the one mile run.
Princeton has the early lead in the team competition with 47 points, followed by Cornell with 23. Dartmouth is in seventh place with two.
