CANTON, N.Y. -- Despite 35 saves by senior goaltender Kate Lane (Wingham, Ont.), the Dartmouth women's hockey team fell to St. Lawrence, 5-1, in ECACHL action Saturday afternoon.
With the final weekend of the regular season complete, the Big Green (12-11-4 overall, 9-8-3 ECACHL) travels to Brown for the best two-of-three first round series, March 3-5. Dartmouth is the tournament's sixth seed, while Brown is third. In head-to-head competition this season, the Bears won, 2-0, on November 18 in Providence, before the two teams skated to a 3-3 overtime tie on February 4 in Hanover.
Against No. 2 St. Lawrence, Dartmouth mustered only a third period goal by freshman Marley McMillan (St. Paul, Minn.) on the power play. The goal came at 5:05 as two other freshmen, Sarah Newnam (Lexington, Ky.) and Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.) assisted.
That made the score 4-1 in favor of the Saints, and SLU added another goal by Abbie Bullard four minutes later to account for all the scoring. St. Lawrence (28-3-2 overall, 16-2-2 ECACHL) is the top seed in the upcoming tournament.
