KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Dartmouth softball team swept in its final day at the Rebel Games in Orlando, Fla. The Big Green (7-10), who is on a three-game winning streak, defeated Vermont in the first game, 3-2 in eight innings and then topped Hartford, 7-4 in the nightcap.
In Game One the Catamounts got on the board first in the opening frame but Dartmouth answered in the bottom of the first when Kelly Fry (Marietta, Ga.) singled scoring Jess Reiten (Santa Ana, Calif.)
The game remained knotted at one until the eighth inning when the international tie breaker rule was put into effect. Vermont started with a runner at second and plated her but Dartmouth responded when Katie Chifcian (Fullerton, Calif.) belted a single that scored two to give the Big Green the 3-2 victory.
Freshman Stephanie Trudeau (Spokane, Wash.) went the complete game giving up two earned runs while striking out eight. Trudeau is now 3-3 on the season.
In the second game Dartmouth exploded with seven runs in the first inning to top Hartford, 7-4.
Ashley Gleason (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Sarah Bankoff (Lynnfield, Mass.) both had multiple RBIs in the first to give Dartmouth the lead before the Hawks answered with four runs of their own in fourth inning.
Abby Reed (Barrington, Ill.) started the game and picked up her second win of the year (2-2). She went four innings giving up just one earned run while striking out eight. Trudeau came on in the bottom of the fifth to earn her first collegiate save with five strikeouts.
Dartmouth returns home, traveling to UMass on Wednesday, March 29 for a 2:00 pm doubleheader.
