AMHERST, Mass. - The Dartmouth softball team dropped a twin bill, 8-0 and 20-0, to the University of Massachusetts today at the UMass softball complex. The Big Green falls to 7-12 on the season.
In the first game the Minutewomen put runs across in the first, second, third and fifth innings to defeat Dartmouth, 8-0 in five innings.
Angela Megaw (Bomoseen, Vt.) took the loss for the Big Green. She started the game going 4.1 innings before being relieved by Abby Reed (Barrington, Ill.). Megaw struck out four while giving up all of the Minutewomen's runs.
Jess Reiten (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Sarah Bankoff (Lynnfield, Mass.) recorded the only hits for the Big Green.
In the nightcap the Minutewomen exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the third to go up quickly. Dartmouth starter Stephanie Trudeau (Spokane, Wash.) was relieved midway through the frame by Reed.
UMass put 12 more runs across in the bottom of the fourth to take the 20-0 win. Bankoff broke up Minutewomen pitcher Jenna Busa's fourth collegiate no hitter as the sophomore reached first in the top of the fifth inning. As the next batter, Alicia Petryk (White Bear Lake, Minn.) gave Dartmouth another hit singling to third base.
Trudeau loaded the bases on an error by second base before Bankoff was picked off at third ending the game in the top of the fifth. Trudeau took the loss for the Big Green.
Dartmouth will back in action on Saturday, April 1 traveling to Fairfield for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
