HANOVER, N.H. - With late game heroics, the Princeton softball team defeated Dartmouth in two games this afternoon at Sachem Field. The Tigers took Game One, 2-1 and were victorious in the nightcap, 5-0. Freshman pitcher Stephanie Trudeau (Spokane, Wash.) had a no-hitter going in the second game before it was broken up by the Tigers late in the contest.
In the first game it was Dartmouth that scored first off a home run by Alicia Petryk (White Bear Lake, Minn.) in the second inning.
The Big Green held Princeton scoreless for the next three before the Tigers plated a run off a passed ball. Princeton added one more in the top of the seventh off singles by Amanda Erickson and Tiffany Andras.
In the circle Angela Megaw went the complete game for Dartmouth. She gave up just one earned run while striking out four. Ashley Gleason (Costa Mesa, Calif.) along with Petryk were the only batters to get hits of Princeton starter, Erin Snyder.
Game Two was scoreless through five innings before the Tigers exploded for three runs in the top of the sixth.
In the bottom of the fifth the Big Green had a chance to pull ahead when Petryk walked and Sarah Bankoff (Lynnfield, Mass.) reached on a fielders choice sacrifice bunt. With runners at first and second and one out a ground out by Trudeau advanced the runners but the Big Green stranded the two.
Princeton added two more runs in the top of the seventh. In the bottom half of that frame the Tigers walked three Dartmouth batters to load the bases but the Big Green could get no runs across.
Trudeau went the complete game for the Big Green. Katie Chifcian (Fullerton, Calif.) got the only hit for Dartmouth.
With the victory Princeton improves to 26-15, 12-2 Ivy. The two wins gives the Tigers the Ivy League title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Dartmouth falls to 12-22 overall, 5-7 Ivy.
The Big Green will be back in action next Saturday, hosting Harvard. The doubleheader will begin at 2:00 p.m. and will be senior day for three Big Green players.
