Dartmouth softball team split in its first Ivy doubleheader of the season. The Big Green lost the first game to Cornell 3-2 in nine innings and then defeated the home Big Red 4-3 in the night cap. Dartmouth improves to 8-15, 1-1 Ivy on the season while Cornell is now 15-16, 1-1.
In Game One Cornell was on the board first, plating a run in the bottom of the third. The Big Green pulled ahead with two runs in the fourth before the Big Red tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth. The teams then played two scoreless extra innings before Cornell scored the winning run in the ninth.
Kelly Fry (Marietta, Ga.) had two hits in the game. She was 2-4 with one run. Fry along with freshman Katie Chifcian (Fullerton, Calif.) each hit a double for the Big Green.
Angela Megan (2-8) took the loss for Dartmouth. She went hte complete game allowing just two earned runs while striking out seven.
In the second game of the day Dartmouth put all four of its runs across in the first with Cornell adding its three runs in the bottom in the third but it wasn't enough as the Big Green held on for the 4-3 victory.
Chifcian was the only Dartmouth player to have multiple hits as she went 2-4 with one run. Alicia Petryk (White Bear Lake, Minn.) knocked her first home run of the season, scoring three.
Stephanie Trudeau (Spokane, Wash.) earned the win in the circle going the complete game, striking out three. The freshman is now 4-5 on the season.
