NEW YORK, N.Y. - Dartmouth softball split its second straight Ivy League doubleheader to improve to 9-16 overall and 2-2 in the league. Columbia defeated Dartmouth in Game One, 3-1 with the Big Green capturing Game Two, 5-2.
Dartmouth starter Angela Megaw (Bomoseen, Vt.) along with Columbia's pitcher Jackie Adelfio matched zeros over the first three innings of the first game until Dartmouth broke the tie with a run in its half of the fourth.
With a runner on first and two outs, Alicia Petryk (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Megan Snively (Dallas, Ore.) hit back-to-back singles to plate the first run and give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead that it would hold until the bottom of the sixth.
Columbia's rally started with one out, when a runner reached on a Dartmouth error. Then with runners at first and second Kacy Krisman was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Lacy Nelson came through for the Lions, belting a sharp, line-drive single to third base to tie the game at 1-1.
Two batters later, Kim Krisman ripped the pitch through a hole on the right side, scoring two and giving Columbia a 3-1 advantage.
Megaw scattered four hits over six innings while striking out four. Katie Chifcian (Fullerton, Calif.) went 2-3 while Petryk went 2-2.
Dartmouth got on the board quickly in the nightcap, scoring twice in the top of the first. Chifcian singled to third to start things off. With runners at second and third a sac fly by Ashley Gleason (Costa Mesa, Calif.) scored Chifcian. Sarah Bankoff (Lynnfield, Mass.) got the Big Green's second run of the inning on an RBI single through the left side.
Columbia bounced back with two runs in their half of the first before Dartmouth scratched out a run in the second to move ahead, 3-2, and added two more on a home run by Petryk in the fifth that provided the final margin.
After the first inning, Dartmouth starter Stephanie Trudeau (Spokane, Wash.) settled down, only allowing three hits the rest of the way and striking out nine in all.
Chifcian was 3-4 with one run and one RBI while Petryk was 2-3 with one run and two RBI.
Dartmouth returns to action next weekend, when the Big Green will travel to Yale and Brown in two Ivy doubleheaders. Game time on Friday, April 15 against Yale will be at 1:00 pm and then on Saturday, April 16 against Brown the teams will square off at 3:00 pm.
