Big Green Drop Season Opener to Auburn 1-0 in Overtime

The Big Green women's soccer team fell short at the hands of Auburn University 1-0 in the first round of the Auburn Classic.
After a scoreless 90 minutes of play the teams went into their first overtime session. Just three minutes in the Tigers drew a penalty kick. Senior midfielder Amanda Garcia beat Dartmouth netminder Amanda Webb (Danvers, Mass) from the 12 yard spot for the game-winner.
Dartmouth outshot the Tigers in the contest 8-6, but ultimately it was the 20 fouls charged to the Big Green that aided in the season opening loss. Emily Tracy (Belfair, Wash), Ali Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass.) and Maggie Goldstein (Hillsborough, Calif.) applied the most offensive pressure as each put a shot on goal. Auburn's sophomore goalie, Allison Whitworth, ended the contest with three saves. Whitworth also finished saving three of the Tigers shots.
The Big Green play their second and final contest of the Auburn Classic on Sunday as they take on Vanderbilt.
