The No. 22 Dartmouth women's soccer team jumped out a 2-1 lead over Vanderbilt midway through the second half but could not hold on, falling to the Commodores, 3-2 in the second day of the Auburn Classic. Becky Poskin (Leawood, Kansas) scored both goals for Dartmouth. The loss drops the Big Green to 0-2 on the season while Vanderbilt improves to 1-1-2.
The Commodores were on the board first in the opening stanza before Dartmouth powered its way out front with two unanswered goals. Poskin scored her first unassisted strike at 53:46 off a rebounder from a yard out. She gave the Big Green the lead less than three minutes later off a high kick over the keeper's hands.
Vanderbilt put the pressure on from there on out, notching two goals to gain the lead and the win. Along with her two goals Poskin led the team with four shots. The Big Green outshot the Commodores 12-9 while Vandy had the advantage in corner kicks, 5-1.
Dartmouth keeper Amanda Webb (Danvers, Mass.) made three saves while Tyler Griffin in net for Vanderbilt also recorded three.
The Big Green return home with contests against Maryland on Friday at 4:00 pm and Central Connecticut on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
