Pattman Scores 23 as Dartmouth Men's Basketball Outlasts Army, 66-58
HANOVER, N.H. - Senior Leon Pattman (Memphis, Tenn.) scored a game-high 23 points, leading the Dartmouth men's basketball team to a stunning 66-58 victory over Army on Tuesday night.
The Big Green (5-7) never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 24-9 lead at the midway point of the first half, and then holding off the Cadets in the second half when Army got within two on three occasions.
With a 47-45 lead at 6:13, Dartmouth put together a 10-0 run in the next three minutes. A dunk by sophomore Alex Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.) gave the Big Green a 57-45 lead, forcing Army to foul in the final minutes.
Junior Johnathan Ball (Memphis, Tenn.) and sophomore DeVon Mosley (Mesquite, Texas) each scored 12 points for Dartmouth who has won five of its last six games going into Saturday's Ivy opener against Harvard.
Barnett had 10 rebounds and was one point shy of a double-double with nine points as the Big Green shot 63.9 percent in the second half. For the game, Dartmouth finished at 44.9.
"That was some good competition tonight," said Dartmouth coach Terry Dunn, noting Army's 10-5 record. "They are a tough team. We were able to jump out on them early, but they came right back. We didn't budge an inch, and I thought that was huge. We could have very well folded our tents, and I'll give the guys a lot of credit."
Of the 11 Dartmouth players who saw game action, eight earned double figures in minutes played, including sophomore Marlon Sanders (Cleveland, Ohio), junior Michael Giovacchini (Salt Lake City, Utah), senior Jason Meyer (Covington, Ohio) and sophomore Kurt Graeber (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.).
"That's the goal," said Dunn, "to have a solid bench and a solid rotation where there's no drop-off."
For the Cadets, Matt Bell had 19 points and Jarell Brown added 17.
