Pattman Paces Dartmouth Men's Basketball to Overtime Thriller

HANOVER, N.H. - Senior Leon Pattman (Memphis, Tenn.) scored a season-high 27 points as the Dartmouth men's basketball team took an 80-73 overtime victory over Harvard Saturday night.

In the first Ivy League game for both teams, the Big Green (6-7) recovered from a 35-23 deficit at halftime.

Dartmouth sophomore Alex Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.) had his second double-double of the season, scoring a career-high 19 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

The Big Green outscored Harvard, 41-29, in the second half, but didn't lead until the 2:40 mark. With Dartmouth trailing 61-60, Pattman scored on a layup, giving the Big Green its first advantage of the game, 62-61.

On the next possession, junior Johnathan Ball (Memphis, Tenn.) had a key steal for the Big Green before feeding Pattman for another layup 21 seconds later, making it 64-61.

Harvard (7-8) forced the overtime with 1:53 left in regulation when Jim Goffredo banged in a 3-pointer.

With about three minutes left in overtime, Pattman connected on a 3-pointer for a 71-68 Dartmouth lead, and that triggered a 6-2 run.

Sophomore Dan Biber (Lorain, Ohio) capped it off with a layup, giving Dartmouth insurance, 77-70, with 36 seconds to go.

After shooting only 34.8 percent in the opening half, Dartmouth improved to 50.8 percent for the game, including six-of-seven in overtime. Defensively, the Big Green held the Crimson to 39 percent.

"I thought we had a great perseverance and a lot of stick-to-it-tive-ness," said third-year coach Terry Dunn. "We didn't break, and we just kept working and plugging away. Leon had a great offensive night, and we played good defense down the stretch."

The Big Green had won six of its last seven games, and heads to Harvard on Friday, January 12 for a rematch at 7 p.m.
