HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth field hockey team was defeated by 12th-ranked Boston College, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Scully Fahey Field. The Big Green falls to 4-8 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 10-5.
Boston College controlled the ball for most of the first half, outshooting Dartmouth 10-2 and adding a 7-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The pressure paid off for the Eagles with 10 minutes remaining in the half, as Caitlin Young fired a shot that was blocked by senior captain Whitney Waugh (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.), but Young followed her shot and scored.
In the second half, Boston College continued to keep the ball on its side of the field. Dartmouth was able to relieve the pressure a few times, but could not capitalize on two second half corners. The Eagles got an insurance goal with seven minutes left in the game when Katie Quaglia slid a long pass into the crease and Crystal Frates was there to tip it by junior goaltender Jordan Sedlacek (Golden, Colo.), to put Boston College up 2-0.
The Eagles outshot the Big Green 17-5 and held an 11-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Sedlacek made seven saves in the defeat, while Berkowitz did not get challenged and didn't have to make a save.
The Big Green will be back in action this coming weekend as Dartmouth faces Ivy League foe Columbia at 12 noon on Saturday at Scully Fahey Field.
